PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY

PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY TREATMENT IN TORRANCE, CA

Peripheral Neuropathy is a condition in which the nerves outside of the central nervous system become injured or damaged. This includes nerves in the legs, feet, arms, hands and shoulders.

Individuals who are suffering from peripheral neuropathy will experience symptoms such as muscle weakness, cramping, and muscle spasms. Numbness, tingling, shooting or electric pain in the arms and legs will also be present if the sensory portions of the nerve become damaged. There may also be burning sensations, sensitivity to touch, and lack of coordination.

The most important part of effectively treating neuropathy is diagnosing the nerve that is damaged or compressed and finding the source of the injury. There can be many causes for this type of nerve damage. Some of these may include direct trauma, chemical injury, or a systemic illness. The most common type of peripheral neuropathy is caused by diabetes and affects the feet or hands. When blood sugar levels become too high, there is a toxic effect on the peripheral nerves and circulation.
